FPD Certified Radiata Pine Grades

FPD offers radiata pine from Chile in three grades including COL A, COL B (Mill Run), and Industrial. Many different thicknesses, widths, and lengths are available. Typical sizes include 19/22/25/38/45/50mm x 95mm and wider x 3.2/4.0m. 
COL A:

  • Pith – none

  • Wane – none

  • Birdseye – none

  • Blue stain – none

Industrial:

  • Pith – 50% maximum

  • Wane – 10% maximum

  • Birdseye – 10% maximum

  • Blue stain – allowed

COL B (Mill Run):

  • Pith – 25% maximum

  • Pencil Wane – 5% maximum

  • Birdseye – 5% maximum

  • Blue stain – Light

Notes:

  • Typically, units painted with FPD logo.
  • Some grades of Industrial are better than above – will describe when they are.
  • Lower grades are available – called downfall or special grades with description.
  • Higher grades are available – C4 (clear 4 faces), C3, Mldg &Better best or worst face, etc.
  • Lumber is MC 12% unless otherwise specified.

Radiata Pine Uses

One of the most widely imported species in the world, Radiata Pine is well suited for a variety of applications. This species has a variety of uses including construction lumber, posts, beams, fencing, concrete formers, veneer, plywood, paper, boxes, and crates. FPD sources our radiata pine lumber from Chile. This species has a light brown heartwood and paler yellowish white sapwood. Radiata Pine works well with both hand and machine tools and it glues and finishes well.
