FPD Certified Taeda Pine Grades

FPD offers taeda (SYP) pine from Brazil and Argentina in three grades including Premium Furniture Grade, Premium Furniture COL, Standard Furniture Grade, and Industrial Grade. Many different thicknesses, widths, and lengths are available. Typical sizes include 15/16/19/22/25/38/47/50mm x 75mm and wider x 1.8m and longer.


Premium Furniture Grade – from Jacket Boards/side cuts:                                       

  • Pith: less than 4%

  • Wane: 5% maximum pencil wane

  • Blue Stain:  None

Standard Furniture Grade: ( Not available at this time)

  • Pith: less than 25%

  • Wane: 10% maximum pencil wane

  • Blue Stain:  Light

Downfall:

  • Please ask for offerings – grade will be defined in the offering.

 



Premium Furniture COL – from whole log cutting:

  • Pith:  less than 15%

  • Wane:  5% maximum pencil wane

  • Blue Stain:  none.

Industrial Grade:

  • Pith:  not limited

  • Wane:  medium, but limited to one face only.

  • Blue Stain:  Allowed.
Notes: 

  • Generally, units have painted ends with FPD logos.
  • MC 14% unless otherwise specified.
  • Higher grades may be available – please ask.
  • All lumber is Rough finish unless otherwise specified.

Taeda/Elliotis Uses

Taeda is one of the most widely exported softwoods from Brazil. This species is most widely used for construction purposes including stringers, roof trusses, joists, piles, subflooring, and sheathing.  For exterior uses, this species is typically pressure treated with preservatives to withstand the elements. This species is sourced from Brazil. These logs have straight, uniform grain with reddish brown heartwood and yellowish white sapwood. This species has a high degree of workability in almost all circumstances.

Nailing: Excellent
Screwing: Excellent
Gluing: Very Good
Finishing: Very Good
